The new rear addition to an existing home was modelled on the design flexibility and simplicity of the classic dollhouse where partitions between rooms are often arbitrary and one room can be turned into another by simply swapping the décor!
Yet it is the exterior of the house that draws your attention instantly with two retaining concrete walls supporting the cantilevered frame of the house. This preserves the original lot as much as possible and fashion a residence that is as ecologically non-invasive as possible.
The beautiful garden brings in natural light adds a tinge of freshness to the modern living area and visually links the indoors with the courtyard and pool area outside. Carefully placed pops of accent hues make a big impact thanks to the gray and white backdrop. Textured walls wooden finishes and unassuming décor create an air of cozy opulence.
A similar rustic-inspired earthen color scheme is employed in the kitchen dining room and bedrooms as well even as gorgeous lighting fixtures and a flood of natural light add to the relaxing ambiance.
Designed by Jamison Architects the renovation sought to increase the living space indoors give the home a more cheerful ambiance and to open up the new master suite on the second level to the distant ocean view. The lower level of the revamped duplex now houses the living area along with the kitchen and dining space.
