The remodeled interior showcases a wonderful alchemy of the past and present as much of the original design by Paul Kirk is preserved and highlighted even as the latest additions make a bold visual impact. The large collection of windows that opens up the kitchen living and dining areas towards the sparkling city skyline is still kept intact to give the interior an airy appeal.
The open design of means it needs to turn to new strategies in order to combat the harsh desert conditions while retaining its contemporary appeal. This was accomplished by Kevin B Howard Architects using a unique blend of traditional adobe walls and a series of wafer-thin overhangs!
Pops of color such as the yellow accent wall in the living area dark chalkboard wall in the kitchen and vintage Coca-Cola signs in the bedroom enhance the air of playful joy indoors. With new metallic bones and classic 19th century charm this is a house that leaves you mesmerized with its sheer ingenuity!
But when Gavin Kelly moved from Australia to Seattle in the late 90s and was searching for a house in the he was unaware that the old 1960s residence he was about to buy was designed by Paul Kirk himself! With a roof that combined with its north and south side walls to create a homogenous structure this 1966 house was transformed into a modern hub a decade down the line.
The lower level contains the an open plan living area along with the kitchen and dining space guest bedroom a pantry and laundry room while the top floor of the extension holds the master suite. With the addition of the two-story structure much of the original home serves as a smart buffer zone and now houses a home studio and playroom.
Showcasing all of this in a refined contemporary fashion is the in designed by Søren Rose Studio. The beautiful home brings forth all the classic features of the Tribeca loft but with a hip New York City twist!
Some of the materials from the original home were removed and reused in the form of unique weathered décor pieces and accent surfaces that celebrate the rich past of this beautiful row house.
